Kids Atelier is a 2,000-square-foot children’s clothing store inside NorthPark Center in Dallas, one of the most tightly managed retail environments in Texas. The remodel replaced the storefront, rebuilt the sales counter, and added new fitting rooms and storage, all within the mall’s design criteria and construction rules.
Storefront work in a mall like NorthPark has to satisfy the landlord’s tenant design manual before it ever reaches the city, so the drawings were prepared for both reviews at once. The new storefront opens the shop to the concourse, and the sales counter sits where staff can see the entry and the fitting rooms at the same time.
Behind the sales floor, the fitting rooms and stock room were sized to keep merchandise close at hand without eating into display space, which is the constant trade-off in a 2,000-square-foot footprint.
